Abstrakt: Bushfires pose significant health and safety risks to workers due to exposure to smoke and toxic gases. While smoke management systems play a vital role in mitigating these risks, their effectiveness depends on proper design, operation, and maintenance. This article reviews the current state of knowledge on smoke management systems, the Exposure Assessment Strategy Model (EASM), respiratory protection programs, and their integration with bushfire smoke reduction measures to minimize worker exposure risks during bushfires. The study's methodology involves a comprehensive literature review of smoke management systems, EASM, and respiratory protection programs, assessing their effectiveness in mitigating exposure risks during bushfires. To illustrate this integration, we have selected a remote mining town in a bushfire-prone area as a model. The findings indicate that properly designed and operated systems can effectively reduce exposure risks, but challenges and limitations persist. The primary conclusion is that a multidisciplinary approach, combining engineering principles and industrial hygiene methods, is crucial for reducing exposure risks during bushfires. Further research is needed to better understand the limitations and challenges associated with bushfire smoke exposure and to identify ways to integrate engineering principles and industrial hygiene to safeguard workers' health and safety during bushfires.
