This article explores trauma-informed care and screening for stress and emotional disorders in Afghan refugee children. It emphasizes the importance of using proven tools to evaluate and provide care for children from war-torn environments. While the experiences of Afghan refugee children may be unique, the tools and principles discussed can also be applied to children from other war-torn areas. The article provides screening tools for stress, anxiety, depression, and post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) in children, and highlights the need for cultural sensitivity when working with these children. Additional resources for healthcare providers seeking more information on refugee health are also provided, including the SAMHSA's Trauma and Justice Strategic Initiative, which offers guidance on trauma-informed care.
