A growing number of middle-aged women in Australia are experiencing eating disorders, with an estimated 17.6% of those with eating disorders falling between the ages of 35 and 54. These disorders often coincide with major life events such as menopause, divorce, and the death of a parent. Many women with midlife eating disorders struggle in silence and may not even recognize that they have a diagnosable eating disorder. The most common disorders in this age group are unspecified feeding or eating disorder (UFED) and binge eating disorder. It is important for individuals to seek early intervention and support from healthcare professionals. [Extracted from the article] |
