Abstrakt: This article discusses the serious public health concern of coinfection with influenza virus (IV) and Staphylococcus aureus, which significantly increases morbidity and mortality rates compared to IV infection alone. The authors of the article investigate the role of IL-10 in the hyperinflammatory response and lung injury caused by influenza A virus (IAV)/methicillin-resistant S. aureus (IAV-MRSA) coinfection. They find that IL-10 acts as a deterrent of IFN-γ-driven lung injury and that T cells and monocytes play a crucial role in mitigating this hyperresponsiveness. The study sheds new light on the pathogenesis of this dangerous coinfection and provides a foundation for further research and the development of new therapeutic strategies.
