Abstrakt: Dr. Abdi Sanati explores whether personal experience of mental illness can be the basis for professional expertise. While Sanati argues that personal experience alone cannot constitute expertise, he suggests that it could be a basis for expertise if certain conditions are met. Sanati emphasizes the importance of community and shared experiences in the development of expertise. The article also discusses the role of activists in creating new narratives and meanings around mental health experiences. The author concludes that peer support workers, who draw on their own lived experiences of mental health difficulties, can acquire the necessary knowledge and skills to become experts in their field.
