This document is a preface to a special issue of the journal "Computation" on computational medical image analysis. The author highlights the progress made in this field over the past decade, with a shift towards machine-learning-based techniques. The special issue received enthusiastic responses from the academic community, with 12 successful submissions from authors based in 11 different countries and four continents. The document also includes a table summarizing the 12 papers published in the special issue, covering a range of applications such as eye melanoma detection, breast cancer detection, and COVID-19 classification.
