The demand for ultrafast data rate, enormous bandwidth is ever increasing; on the other hand, existing electronic technology has become obsolete in terms of latency and data handling capacity. To overcome this problem, optical technology emerges as the alternate potential candidate. Optical counter is a sequential logic processor which can count the data pulse in any communication network, acts as a memory unit in optical packet switching, and plays an important role in many other high speed data communication network. In this paper, the authors present an optical 3-bit synchronous counter with Polarization switch. Low power consumption (1.23 mW), high extinction ratio (17 dB), high switching speed (0.01 ns) are achieved in our design. Frequency encoding technique has been used for data representation. The validity and feasibility of the proposed model are determined with some MATLAB-based simulations. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR] |
