Researchers at Wuyi University have developed a new protocol to efficiently generate liver sinusoidal endothelial cells (LSECs) from human pluripotent stem cells (hiPSCs) in just 8 days. LSECs are specialized endothelial cells that play a crucial role in liver development and regeneration. The study identified several novel LSEC-specific markers and confirmed that the hiPSC-derived cells expressed LSEC-specific proteins and exhibited LSEC-related functions. This protocol could help in creating a liver-specific multicellular microenvironment for studying liver development and disease progression, leading to the development of new therapeutic strategies.
