A new report from the Universitat Autonoma de Barcelona explores the connection between Alzheimer's disease (AD) and peripheral organs. The study focuses on the kidney and spleen, examining their involvement in waste elimination and blood filtration, respectively. The researchers found morphological and structural changes in these organs, as well as reduced antioxidant defense activity, in 3xTg-AD mice compared to non-transgenic mice. The study suggests that a more integrative view of the interplay between systems is important in understanding the progression of AD. [Extracted from the article] |
