Abstrakt: A recent study conducted at Hokkaido University in Japan has found evidence of Echinococcus multilocularis infection in a dog with chronic gastrointestinal signs. This parasite, which causes a lethal zoonotic disease called human alveolar echinococcosis, is typically found in voles and foxes in Hokkaido. While dogs are also susceptible to the parasite, infections are usually asymptomatic. The detection of E. multilocularis eggs in the dog's feces highlights the need to consider Echinococcus infection as a potential cause of diarrhea in dogs in endemic areas. Further research is needed to assess the risk of human infection from dogs. [Extracted from the article]
