A recent study conducted at Dana-Dwek Children's Hospital in Tel-Aviv, Israel, examined the incidence and outcomes of pediatric patients with a dual diagnosis of traumatic spinal cord injury (SCI) and traumatic brain injury (TBI) on an inpatient rehabilitation unit. The study found that there is limited evidence in the literature addressing this specific population, and TBI may be underdiagnosed in pediatric patients with SCI. The study identified a potential dual diagnosis incidence rate of 73% among pediatric patients with traumatic SCI. However, regardless of the presence or absence of TBI, all patients showed improved functional outcomes during their rehabilitation stays. This research has been peer-reviewed.
