Abstrakt: A recent study from Madrid, Spain, explores the role of the gut microbiome in metabolism, the immune system, and the nervous system. The researchers investigated the bioelectrical profile of two bacterial species found in the gut microbiome, Escherichia coli and Enterococcus faecalis. They found distinct bioelectrical profiles for each species and observed that neural-type stimuli can induce changes in membrane potential without affecting bacterial growth. These findings have potential implications for modulating bacterial bioelectricity as a novel therapeutic target. [Extracted from the article]
