Abstrakt: | A recent report from the Instituto Nacional de Pediatria in Mexico City highlights the need for new treatment options for Trichomonas vaginalis (T. vaginalis) infections. The study investigated the trichomonacidal activity of five imidazole carbamate compounds and found that all five compounds demonstrated potent trichomonacidal activity. The most potent compound was AGR-2. The study also analyzed the gene expression profiles of the parasites and found that the compounds and the commonly used drug metronidazole reduced the expression of key metabolic genes. The findings suggest that these compounds could be a potential new treatment for T. vaginalis. [Extracted from the article] |
