A recent study conducted at Sri Ramachandra Medical College and Research Institute in Tamil Nadu, India, examined the seroprevalence of Chlamydia trachomatis infection (CTI) among infertile female patients. The study found that 7.6% of the 130 female patients with infertility tested positive for C. trachomatis IgG antibody. Risk factors associated with genital chlamydial infection included lack of awareness of contraceptive usage, young age, use of intrauterine devices (IUDs), and multiple sexual partners. The study recommends screening for C. trachomatis using IgG antibody by Enzyme Linked Immunosorbent Assay (ELISA) as a significant diagnostic tool for infertility. [Extracted from the article] |
