Abstrakt: A new study from Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine explores the severity of acute pancreatitis (AP), a sudden-onset inflammatory disease of the pancreas. The study highlights the need for accurate prognostic scores to identify patients at risk for severe acute pancreatitis (SAP) early in the course of the disease. Current prognostic scores have low positive predictive value for SAP and can take more than 24 hours to assess. The researchers provide a summary of commonly used prognostic scores for AP and discuss future directions in this area. [Extracted from the article]
