Abstrakt: A report discusses research findings on Escherichia coli, specifically the O25b-ST131 clone, which is associated with urinary tract infections (UTIs) in Mexico. The study aimed to identify and characterize ESBL-producing E. coli isolates in one healthcare institution in Mexico. The researchers found that 75% of the 86 unique E. coli isolates confirmed as ESBL were obtained from UTIs. The most prevalent lactamase genes were bla CTX-M, and the B2 phylogroup was the most prominent. The study highlights the importance of monitoring the molecular epidemiology of antibiotic resistance in the O25b-ST131 E. coli clone. [Extracted from the article]
