Abstrakt: A study conducted by Sungkyunkwan University School of Medicine in Seoul, South Korea, aimed to determine if shortening the fasting time before pediatric echocardiography is safe. The study involved 93 patients under the age of 3 who were randomly assigned to either a 2-hour fasting group or a 4-hour fasting group. Gastric ultrasound was performed before the echocardiography, and the incidence of complications and the cross-sectional area of the stomach were compared between the two groups. The study concluded that a 2-hour fasting period did not significantly increase complications or stomach size compared to a 4-hour fasting period. [Extracted from the article]
