Abstrakt: A recent study conducted at Leiden University Medical Center in the Netherlands explored the impact of belimumab therapy on memory B-cell trafficking in patients with systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE). The researchers conducted a retrospective meta-analysis and performed extensive phenotyping and transcriptomic characterization of memory B cells in patients with SLE. The study found that belimumab treatment led to a significant increase in circulating memory B cells, particularly in patients with higher disease activity. These memory B cells exhibited a non-proliferating phenotype and demonstrated disrupted lymphocyte trafficking. This research expands our understanding of the therapeutic mechanism of belimumab in SLE. [Extracted from the article]
