Lisa Kidd and Sarah Powell, both carriers of the rare BRCA gene mutation that increases the risk of breast and ovarian cancer, have formed a strong friendship. They have supported each other through diagnosis, treatment, surgeries, and motherhood. Lisa's personal experience with her mother's cancer motivated her to raise awareness about hereditary cancer, while Sarah's own diagnosis led her to become the CEO of Pink Hope. Together, they have co-authored a study called MAGENTA, which highlights the challenges women face in accessing genetic testing and counseling for breast cancer. They aim to improve awareness and access to these services in Australia. [Extracted from the article] |
