Abstrakt: LaQuincey Reed, a bronze artist, is shining a light on the often overlooked tradition of Black cowboys in the West. Inspired by his experience teaching art in Oklahoma, Reed began sculpting Black cowboys to tell their unique story. Oklahoma has a strong Black cowboy tradition, with numerous all-Black towns and the longest-running African American community-based rodeo in the country. Reed's sculptures depict both historic and contemporary Black cowboys, offering a fresh perspective in Western art. Despite his success, Reed has faced challenges in finding consistent gallery representation, but he remains hopeful that collectors will eventually embrace his work. [Extracted from the article]
