Abstrakt: Introduction: Studying verbal processes is an important aspect of neuropsychological assessment and therapy in post-brain infarct patients. Research objective: The aim of this study is to establish the frequency and determine the effects of verbal fluency disorders depending on the ischaemic focus location. Materials and methods: Eighty of the 128, first-ever ischemic stroke survivors were recruited for the quasi-experimental study. They were later assigned to a group of patients with a suitable location of the infarct: PACI, TACI, LACI, POCI. Subsequently, infarcts were categorised, taking into account the topographic area of the brain - cortical, subcortical, in regard to the side of the infarct and the number of ischaemic foci. The Verbal Fluency (VF) test was used to assess speech function. Results: The best improvement was achieved in VF in the patients with LACI infarcts while the greatest success in the VF in patients with cortical-subcortical strokes and with ischaemic changes located in the right hemisphere and the cerebellum. Conclusions: The location of an infarct has significant effects on neuropsychological rehabilitation. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
