Abstrakt: A recent study conducted at the University of Insubria in Italy suggests that screening newborns for a prolonged QTc interval, a marker for Long QT Syndrome (LQTS), could help reduce the incidence of Sudden Infant Death Syndrome (SIDS). The study involved infants aged 20-40 days with no apparent signs of heart disease, and 164 children with prolonged QTc intervals underwent further evaluation. Out of these children, 27 were confirmed to have LQTS, and genetic mutations were identified in 11 tests. The study concludes that this screening approach is effective in identifying LQTS and other cardiac rhythm anomalies, as well as mutations and/or prolonged QTc intervals in family members.
