Abstrakt: Researchers from Hebei Normal University of Science and Technology in China have reported their findings on Salmonella enteritidis, a zoonotic pathogen that poses a significant threat to global public health. The researchers constructed a mutant strain of Salmonella enteritidis by deleting the peptidoglycan-associated lipoprotein (pal) gene. They found that the mutant strain exhibited reduced virulence, decreased abilities in invasion and adhesion, and downregulation of virulence gene expression. The mutant strain also showed good immunogenicity and provided 100% immune protection against wild-type strains in mice. This study suggests that the pal gene could be a target for the development of attenuated live vaccines against Salmonella. [Extracted from the article]
