Abstrakt: A study conducted at Creighton University examined the risk factors for pain experienced during propofol injection (POPI) for anesthesia during endoscopic procedures. The study analyzed the charts of 291 patients and found that hand and forearm IV sites, larger IV gauges, a history of depression/anxiety, chronic narcotic use, fibromyalgia, and chronic pain syndromes were associated with a higher incidence of POPI. The researchers suggest that premedicating with analgesics or using antecubital (AC) IV sites may help reduce the risk of POPI in these patients. [Extracted from the article]
