The Zweifel olefination is a highly efficient and versatile method for constructing carbon-carbon double bonds in organic synthesis. It avoids the use of transition metals and has been applied in natural product synthesis and drug discovery. Recent progress in the field includes the use of new organometallic species, electrochemical and photocatalyzed reactions, and exploration of milder reaction conditions.
