This document is a letter to the editor of the journal European Radiology. The letter refers to a study conducted by Mohamed I. et al, which investigated the pulmonary circulation abnormalities in patients with post-acute COVID-19 syndrome. The authors of the letter discuss the findings of the study, which revealed that areas of increased perfusion were the most frequent pulmonary perfusion abnormalities observed in these patients. The authors propose the term "acute vascular distress syndrome" (AVDS) to describe the increased lung blood flow associated with COVID-19 infection. They suggest performing contrast-enhanced transthoracic echocardiography in symptomatic patients who remain symptomatic for more than 3 months after a COVID-19 infection to detect persistent AVDS-related intrapulmonary shunt. The treatment for this condition is currently unknown. [Extracted from the article] |
