Abstrakt: This article discusses the role and content of Islamic knowledge in Europe, focusing on how it is produced, communicated, and negotiated by Muslim actors in various settings. The authors examine different Muslim communities, intellectual fields, and educational traditions, highlighting the diverse forms of Islamic knowledge and the ways in which it is received and combined with other types of knowledge. The article also explores the concept of relevant Islamic knowledge and its negotiation among European Muslims, emphasizing the processual nature of knowledge production and the importance of adaptation to local contexts. The special issue includes four research articles that delve into specific practices, groups, and contexts, shedding light on the experiences and motivations of young German Muslims studying in Turkey, Danish Muslim women's search for Islamic knowledge, embodied engagements with religious traditions through theater productions, and the use of podcasts by Muslim speakers in Denmark.
