Abstrakt: A combined Lagrange-Galerkin finite element method with a second-order explicit Runge-Kutta-Chebyshev scheme is investigated for solving coupled flow and transport problems in anisotropic porous media. The governing equations consist of coupling the Darcy equations for the pressure and velocity fields with a convection-dispersion equation for the transport of a concentration. Analysis of convergence and stability is presented and error estimates in the L2-norm are derived for the proposed method. Numerical results are presented for two test examples to support our expectations for an accurate and efficient approach for coupled flow and transport problems in anisotropic porous media on unstructured meshes.
