A 6-year-old girl presents with a bruise-like lesion on her lip, tongue, and chin that has been present since birth. Her tongue has been increasing in size and is painful. The diagnosis is a venous malformation, which is the most common type of congenital vascular malformation. Venous malformations appear as bluish discolorations beneath the skin and can vary in size and severity. Treatment options include embolization/sclerotherapy, surgical resection, and molecular targeted therapy. Other differential diagnoses mentioned in the article include dermal melanocytosis, nevus of Ota, hemangioma of infancy, and ashy dermatosis. [Extracted from the article] |
