This article discusses how antisemitism can provoke unwarranted defensive behavior among Jewish individuals. The author explores the concept of "Looking Glass Self," which suggests that individuals develop their sense of self based on how they believe others perceive them. The recent rise in antisemitism has led to challenges to Jewish identity, safety, and self-esteem. The author also highlights instances of Jewish authors being blacklisted and the need for Jews to justify their nationality and existence. The article suggests that this defensive behavior is a sociological defense mechanism in response to the threat to self-worth. [Extracted from the article] |
