Fettercairn Distillery, which has been in operation for 200 years, has a history of embracing innovation and breaking tradition. The distillery's founder, Sir Alexander Ramsay, hired illegal whisky makers to ensure the success of his brand. In the 1950s, the distillery discovered that pouring water down the side of the stills changed the character of the whisky, leading to the development of cooling rings. Fettercairn also focuses on using locally sourced ingredients and has introduced unique finishing processes, such as using Scottish oak barrels and borrowing barrels from local breweries. The distillery is celebrating its 200th anniversary in 2024 and will release an exclusive expression to commemorate the occasion. [Extracted from the article] |
