Abstrakt: A recent report from the Medical University of Vienna discusses new research on sensor technology for magnetic resonance studies of the human calf muscle. The researchers developed a 7 T proton calf coil design that combines dipole and loop elements to improve the detection of metabolites with low abundance, specifically lactate. The setup demonstrated higher image signal-to-noise ratio (SNR) and more efficient transmission decoupling compared to existing coils, allowing for faster imaging with acceptable image quality. The study highlights the advantages of using dipoles in multinuclear calf coils and provides a new use case for their integration. [Extracted from the article]
