A new report from George Mason University discusses the potential beneficial effects of a single bout of exercise on general mood, anxiety, and depressive symptoms. The meta-analysis included 103 studies with a total of 4,671 participants and found that acute exercise led to improved general mood, decreased anxiety, and lower depressive symptoms. However, there was substantial heterogeneity in the magnitude of these effects, suggesting that further research is needed to identify factors that contribute to a positive affective response to exercise. This information may be useful for individuals seeking to improve their mental health through exercise. [Extracted from the article] |
