A recent study conducted by researchers at Tehran University of Medical Sciences aimed to investigate the epidemiology of inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) in Eastern Mediterranean Region (EMRO) countries. The study found that the incidence of ulcerative colitis (UC) in EMRO countries was 2.65 per 100,000, while the incidence of Crohn's disease (CD) was 1.16 per 100,000. The most commonly involved intestinal segment in CD was the terminal ileum, while extensive colitis was the most common finding in UC patients. The study also found that UC patients had a higher incidence than CD patients, and CD patients had a higher history of appendectomy compared to UC patients. [Extracted from the article] |
