Researchers at Sichuan University have conducted a study on acute kidney injury (AKI) and its connection to macrophages. The study found that autophagy-deficient macrophages exacerbate cisplatin-induced mitochondrial dysfunction and kidney injury through the miR-195a-5p-SIRT3 axis. The researchers concluded that exosomal miR-195a-5p mediates communication between autophagy-deficient macrophages and tubular epithelial cells, leading to impaired mitochondrial biogenetics in the cells and worsening kidney injury. This study provides new insights into the mechanisms behind AKI and potential avenues for treatment. [Extracted from the article] |
