A recent study conducted by researchers at Gannon University explores the potential connections between diabetes mellitus (DM) and psychiatric and neurological disorders such as major depressive disorder (MDD), Parkinson's disease (PD), and Alzheimer's disease (AD). While no direct causation can be claimed, the study reveals significant correlations and associations between DM and these conditions. The research review examines the overlapping risk factors, biological pathways, mechanisms, and therapeutic approaches of DM and these disorders, suggesting further investigation into establishing connections between them. The study was funded by the Biology Department at Gannon University and the British Society for Neuroendocrinology. [Extracted from the article] |
