A study conducted at Olabisi Onabanjo University Teaching Hospital in Nigeria aimed to determine the prevalence of hypothyroidism among children with sickle cell anemia. The researchers found that subclinical hypothyroidism does occur in Nigerian children with sickle cell anemia, with a prevalence of 4.2%. They recommend routine screening for hypothyroidism in all children with sickle cell anemia. This research provides valuable insights into the potential risk of hypothyroidism in this population.
