A new study from Fukui Red Cross Hospital in Japan has reported findings on the treatment of massive lumbar disc herniation (LDH) using a transdural approach and posterior fusion. The study found that discectomy using the transdural approach followed by posterior lumbar interbody fusion (PLIF) is a safe and effective surgical method for treating LDH at the upper levels. The case report describes a 57-year-old woman who experienced severe back pain and dysuria, and after conservative treatment failed to relieve her symptoms, she underwent PLIF and transdural discectomy, which successfully alleviated her symptoms. This research provides valuable insights into the surgical management of LDH at the upper levels. [Extracted from the article] |
