Mobile phones are one of the important mediums that are expected to smooth the re-integration process among homeless former prisoners during their stay in the community. This is because the use of mobile phones can help homeless former prisoners to access information on basic needs such as food, shelter, job opportunities, communication with family members and friends including offering security functions. However, little is known about the use of mobile phones among homeless former prisoners as one of the mediums of technology throughout life on the streets. The researcher has conducted a qualitative study by exploring the views and needs of homeless former prisoners towards mobile phones. The thematic analysis that has been done on the interview transcripts leads to two main superordinate themes, the first of which is related to views on mobile phones including the need to do business, connect with family and friends, get entertainment, get information about food distribution and find out about the news current. And the second superordinate theme has shown their need for a phone when reporting is indispensable as a basic necessity when on this street. This situation gives an idea of the importance of mobile phones among homeless former prisoners. It shows the dependence of the mobile phone which is very important for the homeless former prisoner throughout life on the street and the feeling of satisfaction with the function of this mobile phone. Overall, the results of this study are expected to increase knowledge about the use of mobile phones among the homeless and ex-convicts to the Malaysian Multimedia Communications Commission (SKMM), Local Authorities (PBT), TELCO (Telecommunications Network) and other related agencies.
