The article discusses the importance of integrated science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) education and the need for equity-focused practices in STEM. It highlights the benefits of integrated STEM education, such as applying discipline-specific content, connecting to real-world problems, increasing student engagement, and improving learning outcomes. However, the article also criticizes the current STEM status quo, which perpetuates exclusionary practices and maintains a focus on standardized tests. The article proposes four practices for high-quality integrated STEM learning experiences: critical and creative thinking, collaborative design, evidence-based communication, and recognizing real-world systems. It emphasizes the importance of providing equitable access to STEM education and the need for systemic changes and ongoing professional development to achieve this goal.
