This essay will provide some examples of significant cases in the history of Danish children's and youth television in the period from the late 1960s to the mid-1980s, a period characterised by experiments in both form and content. These often anarchic experiments provoked the viewers' expectations and pointed to new ways of using television. The argument is that these alternative aesthetics and modes of address challenged and indeed changed the perceptions of children and young people that prevailed both within the institution of children's and youth television and, more generally, in culture and society.
