The effective solution of problems aimed at improving performance reliability and providing stability performance of electrical power systems depends on the quality of utilized mathematical models of electrical power equipment and their parameterization. By comparing the results of modeling and actual measurements, it becomes possible to estimate whether the model response is consistent with the actual transient process taking place in the power system. The study is devoted to developing an approach to verifying models of the components of the power plant generation equipment using a concept of measurement-based mode playback, which makes it possible to individually verify each such model. The developed approach was used to create an automated tool, which includes searching for modes suitable for verification, playback modeling, and accuracy assessment. The tool performance was tested by measuring the operating parameters using synchronous generators (SG) at two power stations. In case of the synchronous generators installed at the Vankor Gas Turbine Power Plant, two sets of SG model parameters were verified. The result has shown that the use of unsaturated parameters causes divergence of the model. The article could be useful for professionals engaged in mathematical modeling, verification, validation, and identification of the parameters and structures of models of the power system components.
