A recent study conducted in Stockholm, Sweden, explored the omission of completion axillary-lymph-node dissection in patients with clinically node-negative breast cancer and sentinel-lymph-node metastases. The trial included patients with primary T1 to T3 breast cancer and one or two sentinel-node macrometastases. The study found that the omission of completion axillary-lymph-node dissection was noninferior to the more extensive surgery in terms of recurrence-free survival. The majority of patients in both groups received nodal radiation therapy. This research provides valuable insights for the treatment of breast cancer patients with sentinel-node metastases.
