A new study from Universitatsklinikum Erlangen in Germany has developed an optimized raw data selection and binning algorithm to reduce image artifacts in breathing-controlled four-dimensional computed tomography (4DCT) scans used in radiation oncology. The algorithm was tested on phantom measurements and showed improved image quality and geometric accuracy compared to standard reconstruction methods. The researchers concluded that this algorithm has the potential to enhance radiotherapy treatment planning by reducing artifacts and improving image quality without additional dose exposure. The study was supported by Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft and Friedrich-alexander-universitat Erlangen-nurnberg. [Extracted from the article] |
