A recent study conducted by the Faculty of Dental Medicine examined the connection between periodontal disease and depression. The researchers found that patients with both periodontal disease and depression had higher values for periodontal parameters, such as hygiene index, gingival inflammation index, and papillary bleeding index, compared to patients with only periodontal disease. The study suggests that there may be an association between psychological disorders and the physiological and behavioral precursors of oral health issues. Factors such as smoking, diabetes, genetics, depression, and stress were identified as risk factors for periodontitis. [Extracted from the article] |
