Abstrakt: A rescue excavation was carried out in Svobody Square in Modřice (Brno-Country District; Fig. 51) at the beginning of 2022. The oldest medieval finds can be associated with the 11th to 12th century; a bakery district with three ovens is dated to the first half of the 13th century. The main excavation area was located in the courtyard and rear part of a former burgher house destroyed by fire between the 14th and 17th centuries. Remnants of two high medieval large roasting ovens and a millstone fragment were identified in an area with large post holes and surrounded by an approximately two-meter-wide trench. This might have been the periphery of an estate belonging to one of the former vassal houses. The rear section of the late medieval homestead was occupied by a long, multi-space hall structure with cellars and tunnels, serving as stables and barns. Among the recent features are refuse and lime pits with food ovens for making plum preserves, dating from the 18th to the 20th century. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
