Introduction: OnlyFans is a unique content platform consisting of sexually explicit content. In 2021, OnlyFans proposed a ban on sexually explicit content on the platform but quickly recalled it. A sexual content ban may have an impact on the 2 million content creators. Methods: The current study used a qualitative study design that included an open-ended question on an online survey (N = 192) and qualitative interviews (N = 9) of OnlyFans content creators investigating perceived impacts of a ban. Results: Thematic Analysis was conducted, and themes were identified and defined. We identified themes within each of these three categories: (1) Perceptions of Impact of Ban on Society, (2) Perceptions of Impact of the Ban on OnlyFans content creators, and (3) OnlyFans content creators' Perceptions about Reasons for the Ban. Themes for the first category included the following: Further Marginalization, Censorship and Underground Culture, Sex Workers' Rights and Safety, and Sexuality is Taboo. For the second category, we identified Financial Impact, Alternative Platforms and Spaces, Emotional Reactions, and Peer Support and Advocacy. For the final category, we developed themes related to Political, Sociocultural, and OnlyFans-specific reasons for the ban. Conclusions: This study provides insight into the literature on OnlyFans content creators. Policy Implications: Findings have implications for the physical and emotional health, safety, and income stability of digital sex workers and the consequences of online sexual content censorship.
