This article discusses the impact of cardiopulmonary bypass (CPB) on patients with coronary artery disease (CAD) undergoing on-pump coronary arterial bypass graft (CABG) surgery. The study analyzes plasma metabolites in CAD patients before and after surgery to understand the changes in metabolite profiles. The results show significant alterations in metabolite concentrations after surgery, with triglycerides, lysophosphatidylcholines, and bile acids being the most affected categories. The duration of CPB is also found to correlate with these metabolomic changes. The study suggests that these changes may indicate gut dysbiosis, increased vascular inflammation, and organ dysfunction induced by CPB. [Extracted from the article] |
