This document discusses the impact of recent child benefit expansions in Canada on children's health and educational outcomes. The study reveals that these expansions have had a positive effect on children's mental health, especially for girls, but there is limited evidence of improvements in educational performance. The effects of the benefit expansions are consistent across different income levels, but the reforms seem to have a greater impact on the mental health of children from higher-income families. The findings suggest that the benefits may have broader positive effects on children's lives beyond poverty reduction and income. [Extracted from the article] |
