A recent study conducted in Timisoara, Romania, examined the risk of venous thromboembolism (VTE) in patients with septic shock who underwent the insertion of central venous catheters (CVCs). The study found that the concurrent placement of two CVCs in the same vein increased the risk of VTE by 2.5 times. Additionally, the study revealed that hemodialysis catheters amplified the risk of VTE by nearly five times. The researchers concluded that the elevated risk of VTE is likely associated with the insertion of hemodialysis catheters rather than solely the presence of two concurrent catheters.
